Morecambe & Vice: Who? What? When? Where? Why?

September 28, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 2:15 pm

£5
  • « Bloody Scotland: A Mirror to Society
  • Murder on the beach: M.K. Hill & William Shaw »

What can crime fiction tell us about the way the world works? Val McDermid said that if someone in a hundred years wants to know what life was like in the early 21st century, then detective fiction will tell you. Academics Mary Evans, Hazel Johnstone and Sarah Moore have taken it a step forward with their book ‘Detecting the Social’, a fascinating study that reveals the numerous ways in which contemporary detective fiction is both a reflection and an analysis of the relationship between the individual and 21st century society. Join them as they discuss their work with crime writers Gytha Lodge & William Shaw and discover the ways in which twenty-first century detective fiction provides an understanding of the increasingly complex and often baffling contemporary world… and what sociology, as a discipline, can learn from it.
